The HOLY BIBLE: Its Origin and Nature

Updated: Dec 6, 2020

For us Christians, there is nothing far greater than the Holy Bible. No book can ever be compared to it because it is the written word of God (our Creator, King, Protector, Divine Healer, Great Provider, Heavenly Father) for His beloved children--us all.

What is the Origin and Nature of the Holy Bible?

The Holy Bible is composed of 66 books which was written about 1,500 years ago by men from Asia, Africa, and Europe. These people were inspired by the Holy Spirit so only the truth can be written (2 Timothy 3:16, 17). God is the author of the Bible, not physically but spiritually. It is the Holy Spirit who inspired and guided the prophets who wrote the Bible. It is not through the prophets' personal knowledge or wisdom that they were able to write its content but through the holy intervention that God made so that His will and commandments shall never be forgotten by men. Every word in the Bible is trustworthy and truthful. We Christians should faithfully read and accept what is written in the Holy Scriptures. We are also responsible to teach it to our children, so that they too will not lose their path to heaven.

It is the Holy Spirit who helps us truly understand its deep meaning (John 14:16, 17; John 15:26, John 16:13). The Bible has been translated into so many languages so many people can read, hear, and understand the words of God. In fact it is the most translated book in the world. As of October 2019, there are 698 language translations of the complete Bible which means it can be read and understood by around 5.6 billion people. It is estimated that there are 7.8 billion people in the world as of April 2020.

In the Bible, we can read about how God loved His people in the past and what are His plans in the future for humankind. At the end of times, those who remained patient and faithful to all His commandments shall reap the rewards of heaven (Revelation 14:12). Jesus will someday come back to redeem his trustworthy people and let them live in the heavenly home He prepared (John 14:1–3).

“God chose to communicate His truth to humans. God Himself, by His Holy Spirit, gave these men skill to write His messages. He helped these men to do this work. God guided their minds. He showed them what to choose to say or write. God trusted these humans with His messages. These messages are the same as treasures. They were written by humans on this earth. But the messages come from Heaven.”—Ellen G. White, Selected Messages, book 1, page 26, adapted.

How We Can Allow God's Word to Transform Our Lives?

For one to get the most benefit from reading the Holy Scriptures, he must fully accept the fact that every bit of its written message came from God. He must have unwavering faith and avoid any doubt or criticism. It is something that cannot be merely explained rationally because only God has infinite knowledge and wisdom of everything--- far beyond our human understanding (Isaiah 55:9).

What Are The Proofs That The Bible is Trustworthy?

One great proof that the Bible is trustworthy and why we should faithfully apply it in our lives is the fact that it has cited so many prophecies in the Old Testament which exactly happened in the New Testament-- its future during the time the Old Testament was written.

It has prophesied that the Messiah, Jesus Christ, will come from the tribe of Judah (Genesis 49:10). In addition, it was specifically mentioned in the Old Testament that the Savior will be born in Bethlehem in Judah. Now, brothers and sisters in Christ, please be aware that there are two (2) places in Israel which is called Bethlehem-- one is in the southern part (Bethelehem Ephratah-- ancient name of Bethlehem Judah) and the other in the northern part ( Bethlehem In Zebulun). In Micah 5:2, it says:

“But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, though you are small among the clans of Judah, out of you will come for me one who will be ruler over Israel, whose origins are from of old, from ancient times.”

The Old Testament, has also mentioned about the Savior being hated and oppressed. Yet He will die for our sins so we can be saved (Isaiah 53:3–7). Clearly these bible verses revealed how Jesus Christ will be rejected by the people whom He loves so much and that He will be pierced because of our transgressions.

All these prophecies in the Old Testament exactly happened in the New Testament which proves that the Bible is something we can rely on for truth and as we battle worldly temptations.

Ultimately, the Bible revealed that Jesus Christ, our Savior is a living God. He arose from the dead and that gives us hope that no other belief can be compared with. The God we are serving and waiting for is all-powerful, all-knowing, and all-loving. If the God we serve is dead and did not rise from the dead, what kind of future does that give us believers? Apostle Paul wrote in 1 Corinthians 15:14:

And if Christ has not been raised, our preaching is useless and so is your faith.

The Bible also foretells what is going to happen in the future. The books of Daniel and Revelation tells about end times prophecies. We do believe it will happen so it is wise to be prepared and surrender our lives to the One True God.

The Bible is the living word of our God, King, Creator. Let us make it a habit to kneel down and ask for the Holy Spirit to join us as we read the Holy Scriptures everyday so it may transform our lives and make us worthy to inherit the beautiful place Jesus has prepared for us.

Let no man alter what God has commanded. Let us remain faithful and patient until Jesus' second coming.

May we all find love, peace, joy, security and comfort especially during these hard times.
